SZA Seemingly Compares Herself To Little Richard, As She Challenges His ‘Tutti Frutti’ Lyrics: Nobody Complained But I Gotta ‘ANNUNCIATE!’

SZA questioned a legendary artist’s choice in lyrics.

Alternative R&B singer SZA had some questions for the late Little Richard about his 1955 hit “Tutti Frutti.” Over the years, music listeners have complained about her lack of enunciation. Today (Jan. 10), she took to Twitter to ask why it was acceptable for the rock and roll pioneer to have lyrics that weren’t actual words. She tweeted:

“I jus wanna know why lil Richard said ‘wapbabaloobop balapbam boom tootie fruity on rootie’ and nobody complained but I gotta ‘ANNUNCIATE.'”

Some users agreed that the artist shouldn’t be bashed for her signature singing style, while others claimed that she was incomparable to Little Richard. One user wrote:

“I mean, the fact that enunciate is spelled with an e gives you a clear idea of how hard it is to understand what you say?”

Another wrote:

“Chile lmfaooooo lil Richard was a mother f******g genius.”

“It’s the fact that people complaining but they still asking you to drop an album, like they gone listen to you anyway…”

“Not an ‘R&B singer’ not knowing what scatting is.”

“It can’t always just be vibes, we gotta be able to sing along too, ma’am.”

“you typed exactly what he said didnt you? we rest our case.”

“Sister…he is an architect of a whole genre And you? Not so much.”

“Nobody has ever complained about not being able to understand Little Richard.”
