Jussie Smollett Sentencing Hearing Scheduled For March 10

A sentencing date has been determined for Jussie Smollett! Just one month after the former ‘Empire’ star was was convicted of five of six counts in his hate crime hoax case, he is now set to be sentenced on March 10. As previously reported, the 39-year-old actor was charged on December 9 with five counts of felony disorderly conduct related to false statements given to Chicago police about an alleged 2019 hate crime against him. In 2019, Smollett claimed that two white men attacked him, yelled racist and homophobic slurs at him, poured bleach on him and wrapped a noose around his neck.

However, after an investigation took place, a few holes were found in Jussie Smollett’s story and law enforcement accused him of staging the attack. Nigerian brothers Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo eventually came forward and claimed that the assault was fake and Smollett paid them to “attack” him, in an attempt to get media attention.

Jussie Smollett later testified in his own defense and said he paid the brothers only for training advice and nutritional tips. He expressed doubt on their true motive and even admitted to having a sexual relationship with one of the brothers.

According to reports, a disorderly conduct charge for a false crime report is a Class 4 felony and punishable by up to three years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Experts have previously expressed that Jussie Smollett probably won’t serve anytime behind bars and instead will likely be placed on probation and ordered to perform community service.

Only time will tell! Reportedly, a hearing for post-trial motions is scheduled for January 27 and the sentencing date is set for March 10.
