Will Smith – Insiders From Oscars Claim Academy Lied About Asking Him To Leave After Slapping Chris Rock + FCC Received 66 Complaints Over Altercation
As previously reported, news recently broke that the Academy asked Will Smith to leave their prestigious award ceremony after he slapped Chris Rock for making a controversial joke about his wife’s, Jada Pinkett Smith, 50, bald head. The “Girls Trip” actress has been very vocal over the years about her struggle with alopecia. Footage has recently surfaced online of Jada Pinkett Smith’s reaction to the infamous hit that has now been seen around the world.
According to sources who were present, despite what reports may claim, the Academy never asked Will Smith to exit the building after the altercation took place. Insiders claim the “King Richard” actor was actually told by producers of the show he could stay. Reportedly, following the slap, Academy officials had a heated conversation backstage with Will’s reps over what had occurred. Allegedly there was a split among the officials about what should happen next and a final consensus was never reached. In addition to that, sources also claim that Oscars producer Will Packer walked up to Will and said,
“We do not want you to leave.”
Academy officials may have been split over what their next steps should be but some home viewers were not. According to reports, critics left the Federal Communications Commission, a U.S. government agency that regulates television, with 66 complaints about the incident. Reportedly, one ccomplaint the FCC received said,
“The level of violence from one black man inflicted onto another over something he didn’t like hearing is intolerable!! Are you tolerating this??? Thought black lives mattered?? Obviously not!! Is that your message???? Smith should be fined & suspended!!!!”
Another viewer added,
“Obviously, the Oscar’s crossed a line last night. I should not have to worry about what my CHILDREN are going to hear during the Oscar’s presentation. Not delaying the broadcast for whatever reason was a FAILURE on your part. There needs to be fines and people need to be fired over this. Have we not learned anything in the decades since the Super Bowl debacle? Overall, you have a simple job. Do it!”
