Jussie Smollett Could Land $10 Million Book Deal Over Hate Crime Scandal, Actor Reportedly Having Financial Problems Following Guilty Verdict
One thing is for certain, people love a good scandal and are sometimes willing to pay big bucks for the inside scoop!
It looks like Jussie Smollett may be getting a big paycheck for dishing out on his publicized legal scandal! According to sources, the 39-year old actor/singer is now being courted by publishers hoping to land one of the most scandalous tell-alls in recent history.
As previously reported, Jussie Smollett was sentenced on March 10 to 150 days in jail and required to pay a $25,000 fine and $120,000 in restitution to the city of Chicago for lying to police about an alleged hate crime. In January 2019, Jussie Smollett reported to police that he was walking in Chicago early in the morning when he was jumped by two men, who hurled racial and homophobic epithets at him, doused him in a liquid thought to be bleach, and hung a noose around his neck.
He was released from jail on March 16 pending an appeal of his conviction after serving just six days behind bars. Now, after posting a hefty bond of $150,000, the former ‘Empire‘ star may be looking for a way to make some big bucks. An insider explained,
“People are pitching him hard, and Jussie’s been told he could get a $10 million deal, and way more depending on how much he dishes.”
They continued,
“He’s desperate for a cash infusion. The word is Jussie intends to spill on the cruel way he was fired from the show, the co-stars who betrayed him and the friends who refused to back him in his time of need.”
The insider added,
“[Jussie is] confident he’ll be vindicated in court..But whatever happens, Jussie’s earnings have dried up, so there’s no doubt he’ll sign on the dotted line — even if he has to pen this book from a jail cell!”
The court order to release the actor from jail comes after lawyers for Jussie Smollett requested an emergency release due to “vicious threats” toward him and his family, including one from a man who wished sexual assault on Smollett.
During his trial and sentencing, Jussie Smollett maintained his innocence. Amid sentencing, Smollett stood up and announced that he was indeed innocent and was “not suicidal” in case anything happened to him in jail.
