Fivio Foreign Says Beyonce Made Him ‘Clean Up’ His Lyrics In Order To Sample Destiny’s Child’s ‘Say My Name’: ‘It Was Like You Can’t Be Talking About Girls Like That’ [VIDEO]

Fivio Foreign says Queen Bey wasn’t too fond of his lyrics and made him switch it up before giving her blessing to sample one of her songs!

In the music industry, sampling music has always been a normal and constant exchange. However, it’s not always easy to get the stamp of approval from the original artist/writers!

During a recent interview with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning with Laura Stylez and Rosenberg, Fivio explained that in order for Beyoncé to clear a Destiny’s Child sample from their 1999 hit “Say My Name,” the New York Drill rapper had  to ‘clean up’ the lyrics that she found to be too vulgar.

Fivio Foreign explained,

Shout out to Destiny’s Child, I appreciate that. They cleared that joint. She [Beyonce] had to hear it. She heard it.. She made me–It was a little vulgar a little bit for her, at first. I cleaned it up a lot! It was like ‘nah, you can’t be talking about girls like that.”

Fivio went on to reveal that music-publishing executive, John “Big John” Platt explained to him that now that he cleaned up the lyrics, it’s actually going to help Fivio in a major way.

“Afterwards, Big John explained to me that it’s a bigger record now. Its bigger now, to clean it up, it’s bigger now.”

Fivio Foreign’s, ‘What’s My Name’ also features Coi Leray and Queen Naija. The New York rappers debut album, B.I.B.L.E., dropped at midnight on Friday (Apr.8)!
