Original Story: Updates are coming in regarding the recent criminal indictment of rappers Young Thug and Gunna.
On Monday May 9th, news broke that “Young Slim Life” rapper Young Thug had been arrested on the charges of participating in gang activity and racketeering. Reportedly, 27 associates of Young Thug, born Jeffery Lamar Williams, were also named in the indictment, including fellow Atlanta rap artist Gunna.
In a press conference held earlier today (May 10th), the Fulton County DA, sheriff, and police chief, addressed the case. Atlanta officials were asked about inmate safety now that a significant number of rival gang members are in close proximity to one another. As part of the recent indictment, Young Thug, 33, was accused of giving permission to YSL members to assassinate rival gang member YFN Lucci while the rapper was incarcerated. According to news reporters, officials stated that inmates are being “separated and monitored” closely.
I asked Sheriff Labat how he is addressing safety concerns in the Fulton Co. Jail now that 28 YSL gang members are indicted and several are being arrested right now, also after the attempted hit was put out on YFN Lucci in the jail. “Rapper Gunna has not been arrested yet, but Fulton County Sheriff Patrick Labat says arrangements are being made for him to be brought into the Fulton County jail under this indictment.”

Also revealed in the pressed conference, the man suspected of shooting up rapper Lil Wayne’s tour bus back in 2015 is a YSL gang affiliate. The incident occured after the hip-hop icon performed in Atlanta. No injuries resulted from the shooting. Reporters state that Jimmy Winfrey, who was named in the indictment, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the incident.

Thug’s charges per the indictment include
“conspiring to associate together and with others for the common purposes of illegally obtaining money and property through a pattern of racketeering activity and conducting and participating in the enterprise through a pattern of racketeering activity”.
Reporters stated that the police plan to make more arrests on the indictment in the coming weeks.
