Issa Rae Will Play A Version Of A Barbie In Upcoming “Barbie” Movie

Issa Rae has snagged another role on the big screen. According to reports, the 37-year-old actress and producer has been cast in the upcoming ‘Barbie’ film. The project stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken. However, there will be multiple iterations of each one and multiple ethnicities. Thus far, the rumored cast of Barbies and Kens include: Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa, along with Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie starring.

Details about the plot have not been revealed.

Iss Rae’s notable credits include Insecure (2016–2021), The Hate U Give (2018), the fantasy comedy Little (2019), the romance The Photograph (2020), and the romantic comedy The Lovebirds (2020). She will also voice Jessica Drew / Spider-Woman in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023).

Barbie is scheduled to hit theaters on July 21 2023.
