Big Freedia & Robin S. React To Being Featured/Sampled In Beyonce’s New Single ‘Break My Soul’

Beyonce has given us a taste of what’s in store with the release of “Break My Soul”–her first single from her upcoming album “Renaissance“– and it’s safe to say, this song is quickly winning people over.
The vibrant new song, which has a 90’s house music feel, features famed New Orleans bounce artist Big Freedia, making it their second collaboration with Beyonce! The two artists joined forces and collaborated on Beyonce’s song “Formation,” from her 2016 album Lemonade.

Now the pair have reunited again, with “Break My Soul” which features a sample of Freedia’s 2014 single, “Explode.” As the guest vocalist on the new track, Big Freedia can be heard rapping:
“Release ya anger, release ya mind / Release ya job, release the time / Release ya trade, release the stress / Release the love, forget the rest.”

Big Freedia

During a recent interview, Big Freedia opened up about what it meant to be featured on Queen Bey’s new single and how it all came about.

“My manager called and said, ‘Beyonce? wanted to use one of your songs on her new album.’ And I was like, ‘Holy crap. What is going on? Another One?’ I was like, ‘This is happening again?’..I was just grateful and I was honored to be a part of something so iconic and so amazing,”

Freedia says she was asked to come to LA to listen to the track. To her surprise, Beyonce was also at the studio and the two artists were able to talk about their musical collaboration and share their appreciation for one another. Freedia explained,

“So, we get to hang out and talk and she tells me how she’s grateful for being a part of this track. And I’m like, ‘No, I’m grateful for you calling me to be a part of this track and having me on it.’”

She joked and said,

” I needed an asthma pump once I left out of that building.”

Beyonce’s new single also samples 90’s house music artist Robin S’s smash 1993 hit, “Show Me Love!” During a recent interview, Robin S talked about the moment she realized Beyonce sampled her song.

“My son called me and he was like, ‘Mom, mom, you’re trending all over the place! You know, Beyoncé put her song out and it’s ‘Show Me Love’, and you’re trending everywhere.'”

Robin also revealed that there was no formal contact between her and Beyoncé before the song was released. However, the house performer said,

“it doesn’t have to be confirmed. A singer knows her songs.”

Robin S

The beloved house artist took to the time to thank Beyonce for showing her music love and appreciation. Robin S said,

“This is Robin S, and this message goes out to the Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé, to Jay-Z, to the entire team. Thank you so much for giving me my flowers while I’m still alive. I am honored, and I’m excited to see what else can happen.”

Beyonce’s highly anticipated album seventh studio album, “Renaissanceis set to release on July 29!
