Lizzo Calls Monogamy ‘Claustrophobic’: I Don’t Want Any Rules

Lizzo may be a self-love enthusiast, but she has no expectations when it comes to loving someone else.

The three-time Grammy Award winning artist stopped by the Breakfast Club on Friday (July 15), where she shared the latest tea on what’s been going on in her life—including her ongoing love story with her boo!

Lizzo said,

“I haven’t even been with nobody for 10 years. I can’t imagine being with somebody for 10 years, that’s a long time yo. … I think a traditional relationship scares me for 10 years, but love is forever. I can love somebody forever.”

In response to Charlamagne Tha God asking what a non-traditional relationship looks like to her, Lizzo said,

“Monogamy, I think, to me, is a little claustrophobic. I think because [of the] rules. I think a love relationship that’s not monogamous has no rules. I think people who do poly and all that stuff, there’s still rules. … I don’t want any rules. But that doesn’t mean I’m out here f*cking and s*cking and ducking, it doesn’t mean he is either. It just means that like, there are no expectations, and that way, the love gets to just be the main event.”

Lizzo “soft launched” her boyfriend on Instagram on June—but she made sure not to tag his profile. The lovers posed for the cameras while making their carpet debut at the screening of Lizzo’s Prime Video series Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

It was later confirmed that her beau is actor/comedian Myke Wright, known for a few small roles, including How to Be A Grown Up and Doubting Thomas.

Lizzo previously revealed that the relationship is serious and reaffirmed their romance during an interview with Andy Cohen on April 18.

Andy Cohen questioned whether dating while balancing her fame and career was a challenge, to which she replied, “If you have the right person, no. Not at all. It’s not even a factor. Because it should be mutually supportive, no matter what that person does.”
