Tisha Campbell Says She Was Devastated & Went Through Five Stages Of Grief Following Divorce From Duane Martin
Divorce isn’t easy, and Tisha Campbell is sharing her story.
The Martin star is in a much better space now—but it definitely took some time. During a recent interview, she shared what it was like having to find herself again as a person following a nearly 30 year relationship. She even lost friends along the way.

Tisha Campbell said,
“One of the things that goes through your mind is who am I outside of this person? I took marriage, my wifely duties…and being a mother, that was at the forefront of everything. Career came second. I had to find myself.”
She added,
“It was complete devastation. It was disbelief, it was anger at times. It was literally five stages of grief, and then there was more than acceptance. It was acceptance of myself, I’m stronger than I really knew, and it was getting rid of any baggage, setting boundaries for myself.”
Tisha Campbell married actor Duane Martin in 1996. They separated in 2018. The former couple share two children together: Xen Martin, 20, and Ezekiel Czar Martin, 12.
Campbell credits her son and her faith in God for helping her push through such a difficult time in her life. She said,
“God kept giving me something. He kept paving the way for me and kept gifting me all these wonderful miracles. I never understood what faith was until I was at absolute zero. I thought faith was getting on your knees, praying and getting up and doing the work until I could not do anything and my hands were tied behind my back, or up in the air, and there was nothing I could do. That’s when I understood, things were going to work out because He’s going to work it out.”
In a previous interview where she opened up about her love life, or lack thereof, the actress noted that she was happily single and not looking for love. In response to whether she was looking for a man to satisfy her needs, Campbell said,
“I’m learning about who I am and I’m super excited about that, so that’s where I am right now. It’s about me and my kids and that’s it right now.”

She added that she isn’t in need of man … as long as she has her sex toys. Campbell said,
“Hell yeah, toys! Oh, I keeps [sic] me a good toy buzzing around every now and then. You know what I’m damn talking about. Toys, toys, toys.”
Campbell is now back on the acting scene as the star of Netflix‘s comedy series Uncoupled. According to its official description,
“Stunned when his longtime boyfriend moves out, a New York City real estate broker faces the prospect of starting over — and dating again — in his 40s.”
