Rev. Al Sharpton Only Eats One Meal A Day — And It’s A Kale Salad

Rev. Al Sharpton has been on a VERY strict diet, and it appears to be paying off!

Al Sharpton was spotted at the famous Sylvia’s Soul Food restaurant in Harlem, N.Y. last weekend where he told sources he brought his own kale salad (with boiled eggs, tomatoes, cucumbers) to the eatery instead of indulging in the delicious southern cuisine. The reverend revealed he started eating one meal a day “about four years ago.” He explained,

“I eat around noon every day, and that’s it. I have the salad and at night, I may have one slice of whole wheat toast because my doctor said I have to have some kind of protein.”

The civil rights activist was at Sylvia’s celebrating with his daughter Dominique, who was recently eliminated from the celebrity reality show, “Claim to Fame,” in which contestants guess over celebrity connections or offspring. While gushing over his daughter, Sharpton said:

“[Watching her on TV] was surreal… they had no idea who she was. I never wanted my kids to be just Al Sharpton’s daughter. I wanted her to be on her own, and she’s doing that.”

According to reports, Al Sharpton and Dominique were wrapping up a rally in Harlem for his National Action Network organization, when long time friend Rev. Jessie Jackson surprised them and suggested, “we take Dominique out.”

Al Sharpton said he then called the restaurant and asked if he could bring his kale salad. Sharpton joked, “they broke soul food etiquette,” by letting him in with the dish. He said,

“But, we went over to Sylvia’s, and they ordered all the soul food they wanted and I ate my kale salad.”

Working out and eating healthy has significantly helped Sharpton stay lean. Health and fitness has seemingly been a major part of his life over the past decade. Besides his activism and political work, Al Sharpton dedicates a lot of his time on fitness and highlighting it on his social media.

Sharpton told sources,

“At my height — maybe 15 years ago — I weighed 305 pounds. Today, I’m 132 pounds. I just made up my mind, and I just did it. Cold turkey.”
