Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams Thanks Spice Girls’ Mel B For ‘Paving the Way’ [VIDEO]

It looks like Michelle Williams was a big fan of the Spice Girls!

Destiny’s Child member Michelle Williams was a contestant on The Masked Singer: Australia when she was unmasked on week 9 of the series. She had been in full character all season as the mysterious Microphone, but was finally unmasked after her performance of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing.”

After the big reveal, judge and former Spice Girls member Mel B said she had a strong feeling it was Williams all along. In fact, Mel B had guessed the Microphone as being Michelle Williams from the very first episode, while others on the show thought it could be Cyndi Lauper.

An excited Mel B said,

“I knew I knew that voice..I knew it. I knew it.. You’re amazing.”

The “Survivor” singer had praises of her own for  The Masked Singer judge and former Spice Girls member.

Michelle Williams gushed,

“Thank you. It is such an honor to meet you.”

Mel B interjected,

“Oh, come on. No, I am not– we’re not worthy.”

Williams then took the time to thank Mel B for paving the way for other girl groups and shared her excitement at finally getting the chance to meet Scary Spice, despite Destiny’s Child’s many trips to London in the early 2000s. She said,

“From one girl group to another girl group, who is the blueprint. You paved the way. The times when we were in London, all those times in the early 2000s — meeting everybody, but not the Spice Girls!”

Mel B replied,

“You’re an icon, come on Micelle.”

Destiny’s Child was an R&B/pop girl group that rose to fame in the ’90s and early 2000s. The original members consisted of Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Letoya Luckett, and LaTavia Roberson. However, after a major fallout with the group and management, Luckett and Roberson were replaced by Michelle Williams.

Destiny’s Child has sold more than sixty million records as of 2013 and is regarded as one of the greatest girl groups of all time.  The group was nominated for 14 Grammy Awards, winning twice for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals and once for Best R&B Song.

The Spice Girls are a British girl group formed in 1994, consisting of Melanie Brown, also known as Mel B (“Scary Spice”); Melanie Chisholm, or Melanie C (“Sporty Spice”); Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”); Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”); and Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”). With their “girl power” mantra, they redefined the girl-group concept by targeting a young female fanbase. They led the teen pop resurgence of the 1990s and became pop culture icons of the decade.
