Chika Questions Why Businesses Didn’t Cut Ties w/ Kanye West Over His Anti-Black Comments But Only After Recent Antisemitic Remarks: It Took One Time For Him To Overstep A Line w/ White People Before They Shut Him Down
Rapper Chika has some questions for everyone who has recently cut ties with controversial rapper Kanye “Ye” West.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably aware that Kanye West is currently facing heavy backlash for his ongoing tirade against the Jewish community. Over the past few weeks, the 45-year-old has stayed in the headlines for his antisemitic remarks. Kanye West recently shared his beliefs that “Jews who control the media” are working to silence him, and are pushing detrimental agendas on Black people. In a now-removed post, the rapper also tweeted,
“I’m a bit sleepy tonight but when I wake up I’m going death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”

Since making these, and other, concerning comments, multiple businesses have cut ties with the once-respected star. Most recently, Adidas announced that effective immediately, they will no longer be working with Kanye — a move that’s estimated to cost them $246 million in sales. Def Jam Recordings and CAA – a popular talent agency – are also two of the numerous companies cutting ties with the Yeezy designer over his antisemitic remarks.

Yesterday (Oct. 24) fellow rapper Chika, full name Jane Chika Oranika, took to Twitter and asked why these corporations didn’t cut ties with Kanye when he was “tormenting the black community.” In her first message she wrote:
“okay but forreal, the swift response to kanye’s antisemitism vs. the silence when he was tormenting the black community is reaaaaally something to witness.”

The 25-year-old continued:
“[The] man said slavery was a choice and CAA was like, ‘yup.’ Y’all act like Kanye’s hate speech only matters when it affects non-black people and I HAVE to laugh. F*ck this performative activism and all the white people who stayed silent til they caught a stray.”

Next, the “Songs About You” rapper called out people who claim Black people weren’t vocal enough about Kanye’s hate remarks against them.
“Do not in any way respond to this thread blaming black people for white people’s inaction. I refuse to have conversations with people dense enough to believe that if “we” had been more vocal, they would have given a f*ck. How has that worked for every civil rights movement EVER?”

Chika then noted:
“We had that b*tch a** n*gga trending EVERY SINGLE TIME he spewed his antiblackness. It took one time for him to overstep a line with white people before they shut him down. pls return to your thinking corner and come back with something better than blaming ourselves.”

As previously reported, Kanye West has fired off a few remarks labeled as “dangerous misinformation” about the Black community over the years. One of his most infamous comments took place in 2018 when he said that 400 years of slavery sounded like a choice.
Most recently he made headlines for claiming George Floyd died of an overdose instead of being fatally suffocated by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin – who is currently serving time for his death. He also trended earlier this month for hosting a ‘white lives matter’ fashion show.

Some social media users have also posed the same question as Chika:

However, others claimed the Black community didn’t do enough to stop Kanye when he made questionable remarks about their community.
