Offset Receives The Key To His Hometown In Georgia During First Annual Toy Drive

Offset’s acts of goodwill earned him the key to his hometown of Lawrenceville, GA on Friday (Dec. 23).

According to reports, this inaugural civic recognition was presented to Offset during his first annual toy drive. Atlanta City Councilman Byron Amos and Mayor of Lawrenceville David Still recognized Offset’s dedication to community service and his contributions to the music scene.

The city’s chairwoman Nicole Hendrickson also spoke highly of the “Clout” rapper, stating,

“We’re so proud of you and all you are doing to uplift and support our community.”

Offset, who seemed to be a little choked up, expressed his gratitude to the kids at the event for helping him to stay strong. He said,

“Thanks to all the kids for always supporting me, and always listening to me, and always just being there for me, you know. Y’all hold me up. We’ve been going through a tough time, but God is good.”

Offset also shared images from the exciting moment on his IG page. He captioned the post,

“I’m going to make sure that I do more for my community not just holidays or a one time thing I want to be able to change it . Thank God for blessing me to be able to bless others it’s not just gift it’s help to my side the NAWF be a better place.”

The “tough time” he was seemingly referring to during his acceptance speech is the recent loss of his cousin/Migos group member Takeoff. The 28-year-old was shot and killed in Houston, Texas on November 1st. Offset has been honest with fans about how Takeoff’s death has impacted him.

Offset isn’t the only celebrity to recently receive a special honor in the Atlanta metro area. During 21 Savage’s ‘Leading By Example Foundation’s fourth annual ‘Grant-A-Wish’ event in Stone Mountain, Georgia, the rapper was honored with his very own day on Dec. 21.

Grammy-nominated artist Latto was given her own day as well in Clayton County, Georgia. She was also presented with the key to her hometown by voting rights activist Stacey Abrams.
