Swae Lee Slams Billboard For Not Including Him In ‘Top 50 Rappers’ List: That’s F*cking Wrong & F*ck That List
Swae Lee isn’t feeling Billboard’s Top 50 rapper list after his — and his rap group Rae Sremmurd — name didn’t make the cut.
According to reports, rapper/singer Swae Lee spoke on the famed publication’s “50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” list while out in Glendale, Arizona during a Super Bowl party. Although Swae Lee agreed with Jay-Z’s spot at No. 1, the 29-year-old star was hot after finding out he and Rae Sremmurd were omitted from the list.

As you may know, Lee is one half of the hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd with his brother Slim Jxmmi, 31.

During his chat with a reporter, the “Unforgettable” artist explained that the music he creates and his success as a rapper should’ve qualified him for a spot. Seemingly not initially aware of the list, Lee responded to not being a part of the rollout and said,
“That’s f*cking wrong and f*ck that list, n*gga. The list is f*cking wrong, n*gga, if Rae Sremmurd ain’t on there! I got 20 No. 1’s, n*gga. We changing rap, n*gga.”
He continued,
“I feel like it’s like politics. Let’s go off by like, what really turn you up and make your body move. Don’t go on that old traditional rap scale. If I ain’t on there it’s automatically wrong, n*gga, I dropped No Type. I dropped No Flex Zone.”
Lee added,
“Diamond-Platinum record as a rapper. So if I ain’t on the list, it’s automatically wrong. And I’m saying that humbly. But love, shout-out to the list, but let’s edit the list.”
Reportedly, Lee has 2 Diamond (sales of 10 million) tracks to his name: “Unforgettable” with French Montana and “Sunflower” with Post Malone. While Billboard’s whole deal is compiling stats and numbers, it appears Lee believes his top hits should count for something.
As previously reported, Billboard and VIBE recently released their “50 Greatest Rappers of All Time” list in honor of this year marking the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.
In the highly-anticipated “Top 10” reveal, Jay-Z sits as “King” of the dynamic catalog, while fellow lyricists Kendrick Lamar (#2), Nas (#3), Tupac (#4), Eminem (#5), The Notorious B.I.G. (#6), Lil Wayne (#7), Drake (#8), Snoop Dogg (#9), and Nicki Minaj (#10) occupy the seats that follow. Although Missy Elliott, Lauryn Hill, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, and MC Lyte also round out the full register, Nicki Minaj happens to be the only rhymer among the women to grace the “Top 10.”

Reportedly, upon casting their votes, the board of the entertainment-based magazines deliberated on a number of key elements that targeted emcees in North America only. The deciding factors for the nominees solely focused on their musical achievements, cultural influence, artistic longevity, and flow consistency.
