Zaya Wade‘s Paris runway debut comes after the transgender model — born Zion Wade — was granted the right to legally change her name and gender on her birth certificate.

Back in August 2022, Dwyane Wade filed the necessary paperwork to have the teen officially recognized as a female with a new name. The teenager, who now goes by the name Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade, had been openly discussing her transition journey for two years at that time.

Dwyane and Siohvaughn Funches, his ex-wife, have been at odds for months over the decision. Siohvaughn, who accused her ex-husband and his actress wife of using Zaya’s transition for clout, even petitioned the courts to forbid the move until the child was 18.
