Halle Bailey Becomes Emotional Over Full Trailer Release For ‘The Little Mermaid’

Halle Bailey has finally shared the trailer for her highly anticipated film “The Little Mermaid.”

During the 95th Academy Awards last night (March 12), the singer/actress appeared alongside her co-star Melissa McCarthy on stage as they debuted the full trailer for their live-action Disney movie. Halle Bailey, who wore a stunning turquoise color gown, said making the film has been an “extraordinary experience” and a “dream come true.”

She added,

“It was been such an honor stepping into the iconic role of Ariel.”

A few hours later, Halle Bailey took to Twitter and shared that she was a little emotional because she finally got to show the world what she’s been working on. She wrote,

“I’m crying and I’m late but I can’t believe we got to debut the full ‘Little Mermaid’ trailer at the Oscars. Here it is.”

In the trailer, a handsome Prince Eric (played by Jonah-Hauer King) is seen struggling to take control of a ship before he is thrown into the water when it wrecks. A mermaid named Ariel (played by Halle Bailey) swims to his rescue and then scurries away before being seen by anyone.

However, after heading home, Ariel is scolded by her father King Triton (played by Javier Bardem) for having an “obsession with humans.” Feeling misunderstood by her family, Ariel turns to Ursula (played by Melissa McCarthy), the only person who will listen to her desire of wanting to be among the humans.

It hasn’t even been a full 24 hours since the trailer was released and it already sits at number 2 on YouTube’s trending list with over 4.33 million views.

Fans reacted with their excitement under Halle Bailey’s tweet. One said,
