‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star Chandra Wilson Is ‘Challenging’ Herself To Remain On The Series Until Final Episode: ‘I Said It, So Now I’ve Got To Get There’

Fans of Grey’s Anatomy can rest assured knowing that at least one original cast member will likely make it to the final season.

Actress Chandra Wilson, who has played Dr. Miranda Bailey on the series since its 2005 debut, recently reiterated her intentions to remain on the show until its finale episode airs.

During a recent red carpet interview, the 53-year-old actress reportedly stated:

“I used to say, ‘I’m there until the wheels fall off until the very, very end, and it can’t last that much longer, right?’ And then we keep going,”

Adding:

“For now, I’m challenging myself to be there until the very last episode, the very last day, the very last scene…I said it, so now I’ve got to get there.”

The ABC medical drama was recently renewed for its 20th season, despite the departure of staple cast member Ellen Pompeo. As previously reported, the TV star – who portrayed medical newbie Meredith Grey since the start of the series, announced her step back from the show, after 19 seasons, earlier this year. Rumors swirled after the announcement that her castmates will reportedly not miss the actress, as her diva tendencies tend to rub people the wrong way.

In an Instagram post, she wrote:

“I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons! Through it all….none of it …would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!
I love you madly and appreciate you right back. This isn’t your first time on the rollercoaster… you know the show must go on and I’ll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE”

Just last month, actress Kelly McCreary, who joined the hit TV drama 9 seasons ago also announced her exit, writing:
“9 seasons, 200 episodes, scores of heroic surgeries, countless brave patients, dozens of delightful sister house scenes, 1 episode with my real-life sister, some loss and some grief, a few ghostly visitations from mothers, a handful of boyfriends, 2 gorgeous weddings, a bunch of drunken emotional breakdowns, 1 high-speed chase, several awkward dinner parties, 1 punch taken (1 punch thrown), at least 1 pratfall, buckets of tears, innumerable fits of laughter, all the medical jargon mastered, a slew of friends for life, myriad collaborators who grew me as an artist, 1 grateful heart and 1 massive THANK YOU. What a ride!”
Wilson also shared a little about what viewers can expect from Bailey in the new season. Reportedly, she stated:
“She’s about to go through something that tests her as a professional, tests her as a surgeon, tests her as a wife and a mother…And it’s another example of juggling all the balls, right, that women specifically have to do and try not to lose it.”
