Oprah Winfrey Recalls Wearing A Tina Turner Inspired Wig “At All Times” Before Becoming Friends w/The Late Rock Singer In Resurfaced Interview: ‘I Couldn’t Take It Off’

Even celebrities are fans at some point in their lives!

For media mogul Oprah Winfrey, a good part of her life has been spent enamored by legendary Rock and Roll artist Tina Turner, who recently passed away at age 83. Before their life long relationship began however, the 69-year-old billionaire previously admitted to having a slight obsession with the “Proud Mary” singer which, resurfaced recently after Oprah publicly remembered her late friend.

Back in 2011, Oprah Winfrey shared the story of how she created a TV special with the sole purpose of being able to follow Tina Tuner around the country while she was on tour. Naming her own TV project Wildest Dreams, which copied the theme of the concert series, Oprah says she and her crew members traveled around granting the dreams of various people in states mirroring the Tina Turner tour stops. Laying her fandom on thick, the OWN network founder went on to share that she took things one step further, wearing a wig inspired by the music icon she eventually became considerably overly attached to. She stated:

“I had a wig made so that I could be a part and close to Tina in wigdom, And then I wouldn’t take the wig off. I did it for the show, I did it for the next show, I think we did five or six shows around the country…I started wearing it on the weekends, I started wearing it to bed, I started wearing it at all times,”

It was until Oprah’s longtime partner Stedman Graham seemingly brought her back to reality that she snapped out of her Tina wig trance. Oprah continued, remembering how her partner called her obsession a “problem”, telling her:

“I don’t know when somebody’s gonna tell you that you are not Tina Turner….I think you think you’re Tina Turner and you should really be happy being Oprah Winfrey,”

The famed media personality says that she subsequently gave away all of the hair pieces, but admitted that if she still had one today, she’d wear it. The hilariously heart warming story resurfaced after Oprah posted a tribute to her role model turned good friend. As we reported earlier this week, the “Nutbush” songstress was pronounced deceased, having died of natural causes. Oprah’s tribute read:

“I started out as a fan of Tina Turner, then a full-on groupie, following her from show to show around the country, and then, eventually, we became real friends. She is our forever goddess of rock ‘n’ roll who contained a magnitude of inner strength that grew throughout her life. She was a role model not only for me but for the world. She encouraged a part of me I didn’t know existed.”

Continuing:

“Once she claimed her freedom from years of domestic abuse, her life became a clarion call for triumph. I’m grateful for her courage, for showing us what victory looks like wearing Manolo’s and a leather miniskirt. She once shared with me that when her time came to leave this earth, she would not be afraid, but excited and curious. Because she had learned how to LIVE surrounded by her beloved husband, Erwin, and friends. I am a better woman, a better human, because her life touched mine. She was indeed simply the best.”
