Usher Clarifies Rumor That He Once Worked As Beyoncé’s Nanny

R&B singer Usher is clearing up a story about the time he was sort of asked to babysit Beyoncé back in the day.

The “Good Good” artist touched on the situation during a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast Club Shay Shay.

When Sharpe asked Usher, 45, about reports that he was previously a nanny for international superstar singer Beyoncé, 42, he jokingly stated:

“First of all how could I be a nanny, I’ll be a manny if anything”

He added:

“Nah, nah. I wasn’t Beyoncé’s nanny”

The 8x Grammy Award winner went on to explain that it wasn’t necessarily a babysitting gig so to speak. Rather, he was simply asked to watch over the young star and a few others while they were at the home of musician/producer Daryl Simmons. He continued:

“Daryl Simmons, he had a group by the name of The Dolls, and they came to Atlanta for the first time…This is before Destiny’s Child became Destiny’s Child.”

He added:

“I think I looked over them while they were doing something in the house; I had to watch over ’cause I was like the, you know, the authority ’cause I guess I was the teenager at the time. But nah I wasn’t a nanny.”

Usher’s breakdown of the situation comes after he made a quick remark back in August of last year about knowing the “Renaissance” artist before they both became household names. He stated at the time:

“Fun fact, I knew Beyoncé when she was 12 years old, 11 years old. She used to be in a group by the name of The Dolls. I don’t know if I could consider myself their babysitter, but I had a time where I had to watch The Dolls.”

Sharpe followed up by asking the chart-topper if he knew back then that Beyoncé would become as big as she is. Usher responded, stating that he knew all of the girls together had something special. Throughout their careers, the acclaimed entertainers have gone on to collab multiple times. In 2004, the two linked up for an iconic live performance of Usher’s single “Bad Girl” from the “Confessions” album. Then in 2008, the singers connected again for “Love In The Club Part II,” which features Beyoncé and Lil Wayne from his 5th studio album “Here I Stand.”

With Usher’s big Super Bowl halftime performance coming up on the 11th of this month, we can only hope to once again see the duo together live!
