Based on the 1963 classic from filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s adaption of author Ed McBain’s novel ‘King’s Ransom,’ the original ‘High and Low’ follows a shoe executive whose fight to gain corporate control is interrupted by the accidental kidnapping of his chauffeur’s son.

Once tragedy strikes, the wealthy businessman must choose between using his financial power to obtain company leadership or paying the ransom for the abducted child.

Spike Lee’s forthcoming interpretation will star Hollywood icon Denzel Washington. The anticipated project is set to mark Spike Lee and Denzel Washington’s first collaboration since 2006’s ‘Inside Man’ and fifth overall.

As you may remember, Lee and Denzel Washington also teamed up for legendary movies ‘Mo Better Blues,’ ‘Malcolm X,’ and ‘He Got Game,’ which still serve as staples in the film arena today.

Although not much is known about Ice Spice’s featured role, Apple Original Films recently announced that production is underway.

Written by Lee and Alan Fox, Apple Original Films and A24 have partnered on ‘High and Low,’ with Washington’s ‘The Equalizer’ producer Todd Black stepping in for Escape Artists.

Additionally, Lee holds an executive producer hat through his imprint, 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks.

Mandalay Pictures’ Jason Michael Berman, Peter Guber, and Jordan Moldo are on the producing roster as well, along with Juniper Productions’ Matthew Lindner, Chris Brigham, and Katia Washington.

As for Spice, she’s had quite the music run since breaking out in 2022 with her famous single, “Munch,” which catapulted the 24-year-old to the top of the charts.

From her uber-successful song “In Ha Mood” to girl-power anthems “Boy’s a Liar” and “Princess Diana” with artists PinkPantheress and Nicki Minaj, Grammy-nominated Spice has seen massive wins.
