John Legend Blasts Donald Trump As ‘Tried & True Racist’ & Fans Are Torn: ‘Where’s The Actual Proof?’
John Legend isn’t shy about how he feels about Donald Trump.
John Legend recently sat down with journalist and former White House press secretary Jen Psaki to talk about bail reform in a now-controversial interview.

When asked about Donald Trump’s perceived “effort” in the matter, upon signing the infamous First Step Act in 2018, John Legend said,
“[Trump has] not been an ally. I mean, I think… the First Step Act was fine. It was a very, kinda small reform, and to be honest, most of the reform we need is on the local and state level because most incarceration is local and state. And most of the laws that end up being criminally enforced are local and state laws.”
The First Step Act is a bipartisan criminal justice bill passed in December 2018. It was administered to inflict change on certain rules and regulations within the legal system for federal inmates.
However, although Donald Trump and his supporters often “brag on” the initiative, the “Green Light” singer said he doesn’t feel that Trump deserves any real applause from the Black community at all. He continued:
“At the same time he’s claiming credit for those small things, he’s also saying if people are stealing something, they should get shot in the middle of the store. When we protested the killing of George Floyd, he was advocating for the military to shoot us in the streets.”

Calling out Trump’s alleged racially-motivated actions and remarks, Legend expressed,
“He’s made it clear throughout his life that he believes Black people are inferior. Like… he believes that to his core, in his bones. He wouldn’t let us live in his buildings back in the day…When you hear some of the stray comments he makes, he clearly believes in a genetic hierarchy of humanity and is racially determined. So, he is a tried-and-true racist, like dyed-in-the-wool racist. Like… in his core of his being, he’s a racist. So, I don’t wanna hear what he has to say about what he’s done for Black people; he’s but done very little for us.”
I don’t think I’m alone when I say, John Legend speaks for me…

According to ex-Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, Trump asked authorities to shoot protestors in the legs amid the ruckus that ensued after George Floyd’s death.
Floyd horrifically died at the hands of a white officer named Derek Chauvin, who knelt on his neck for nearly 10 minutes after a store clerk accused him of using counterfeit money.

In response to Legend’s mentioning of Trump’s alleged discriminatory tactics, a user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:
“John Legend hasn’t had a hit since “Ordinary People” and has just transitioned into a political activist that is run around by his flat-back wife. There is nothing to him anymore and that is extremely sad to see. John may have a bit of a goat thing going on with his vocals but the man can sing. He could have been a talent and maybe could have even been a legend. Instead, he’ll be remembered for nothing but anti-Trump tirades.”

Another person added,
“Does anybody take this tool seriously? They keep saying trump is a racist and he feels blacks are inferior. Yet where’s the actual proof? There isn’t any. He has never been racist. In fact, it shows quite the opposite.”

One even alleged,
“Trump has done more for black people than John Legend will ever do.”

Toward the end of the viral clip of Legend’s sit-down with Psaki, he referred to President Joe Biden as a “really decent man who’s done a lot to improve lives in this country.” Legend then noted that he would be persisting in his support for Biden.
Here’s what else the internet had to say about the ongoing Legend vs. Trump feud.
