‘Friends’ Actor Matthew Perry’s Death Under Investigation As Authorities Reportedly Search For Dealer Of Ketamine Found In His System
More details surrounding Matthew Perry’s death have surfaced.
Authorities are actively investigating who provided the ketamine linked to the death of actor Matthew Perry, focusing on how he obtained the drug outside of medical supervision, sources tell TMZ.
Both local police and the DEA have been probing the matter for months, searching for the dealer and the circumstances surrounding its distribution. Key individuals have purportedly been interviewed, although they are not necessarily suspected of supplying the ketamine. No arrests have been made at this time.
Matthew Perry, known for his role in Friends, was discovered unresponsive in his hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home on October 28, 2023. Despite efforts by first responders, Matthew Perry was pronounced dead at the scene. Although initial reports suggested drowning, a subsequent toxicology report confirmed his cause of death as resulting from the acute effects of ketamine.

The L.A. County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Perry had undergone ketamine infusion therapy to address depression and anxiety for over a week leading up to his death. However, they clarified that the ketamine found in his system did not originate from his prescribed treatment.
Ketamine has gained attention for its off-label use in treating severe depression, administered under strict medical supervision. In 2019, the FDA approved Spravato, a nasal spray containing esketamine, a derivative of ketamine, for treatment-resistant depression. It’s important to note this method must also be used in a certified medical setting.
The anesthetic is categorized as a Schedule III controlled substance, meaning it has accepted medical uses but also carries a risk of abuse. Possessing, distributing, or using ketamine without authorization can lead to legal consequences.
