Sean “Diddy” Combs was recently hit with another chilling allegation.

In a revealing essay, former Vibe magazine editor-in-chief Danyel Smith detailed an alarming encounter with Diddy, alleging that the music mogul threatened her life amidst a dispute over a magazine cover.

Danyel Smith recounted an incident from 1997, where she selected Diddy as the cover star for Vibe’s December/January double issue, featuring him in angelic wings inspired by a Warren Beatty film poster.

The issue was set to feature two cover versions—one heavenly, the other hellish—without Diddy’s approval beforehand, which was in line with the publication’s policy.

However, when Diddy learned that he wouldn’t have the option of final approval, Danyel Smith claimed he attempted to force his way into the Vibe office with security guards, demanding to see the covers. Fearing for her safety, Smith was discreetly escorted out of the office to evade the confrontation.

According to Smith, Diddy later called the office and allegedly threatened her over the phone, stating,

“I will see you dead in the trunk of a car.”

Smith responded firmly, insisting he retract the threat or face legal consequences.

Shortly after Smith contacted her lawyer, who then contacted Diddy, and an apology was subsequently faxed over from the “Last Night” artist in an attempt to defuse the situation, per the essay.

Just when the debacle seemed to have been resolved, Danyel Smith recalled that Vibe magazine’s servers were then stolen before the December/January issue made it to print.

She wrote,

“It was almost time to send pages to the printer, and the whole issue was saved on those servers. All the editorial changes. All the pages, with the advertising adjacencies that had been paid for by clients. Gone.”

The incident prompted speculation of involvement by individuals associated with Diddy’s label, Bad Boy Entertainment. However, the issue was eventually recovered, as Vibe’s art director had a copy on a separate disk.

Danyel Smith and Diddy crossed paths several times over the years, as evidenced by several photos. In fact, Smith even approached Diddy to appear on another cover in 2006.

Reflecting on her continued work with the now-controversial record executive, she wrote,

“I had resigned from Vibe in 1999, and when I was rehired in 2006, Combs was among the first people I called to appear on a cover. I did so because I knew the cover would both succeed at the newsstand and reaffirm to my new venture-capitalist chieftains that I still had my chops and that my industry relationships were flawless. So in that series of photos, Combs and I are playing the roles of mogul and editor in chief, and we’re nailing it.”

She continued,

“I’ve been thinking a lot about those two photos lately — and all the photos of me and Combs together. It’s bizarre to see myself smiling in pictures with someone accused of such heinous crimes.”

Reportedly, Diddy, through his representatives, declined to comment on the allegations.

This latest allegation comes amid a federal investigation into Diddy regarding accusations of sexual abuse, money laundering, and illegal drugs, with a potential grand jury indictment looming ahead.
