Charlamagne Blasts Journalist Elliott Wilson, Explains Why He Shouldn’t Be Ranked High On Hip-Hop Media List
Tension between culture commentators Charlamagne The God and Elliott Wilson have come to a head.
The two exchanged a string of insults at one another after Charlamagne shared his critical opinion of Elliott Wilson’s Hip-Hop Media Power Ranking placement.

It appears the recent drama between the media personalities began after Charlamagne Tha God expressed his disapproval of Complex ranking his colleague Elliott Wilson #5 on their list of the current leaders in hip-hop. Reportedly, the author spoke about the matter on a recent episode of the Brilliant Idiots podcast. Charlamagne claimed the #4 spot on the annual ranking, following Kai Cenat at #3, Joe Budden at #2, and DJ Akademiks at #1.

Despite just barely edging Wilson in the running, Charlamagne feels that his media peer didn’t deserve his spot, stating before ranting about his own spot dropping from his #3 placement last year:
“Elliott! I don’t think you should be #5.”

Later in the interview, Charlamagne added that he doesn’t want to be “the 50-year-old person still complaining about not being on lists,” and:
“doing goofy sh*t…starting sh*t you know online with rappers, just to keep my name relevant.”
He even went on to address a video of Wilson insulting him directly, where Wilson joked about Charlamagne being bald and stated:
“I feel like we just never really clicked like that and also I didn’t like the last Brilliant Idiots sh*t he did talking crazy about me being on that list…Never explaining why I shouldn’t be top five, and I’m just tired of his sh*t. It’s old school. At a certain point, you just gotta say f*ck this person. F*ck you. I was born in 1971. It can just be that. We don’t have to be cool. We don’t gotta pretend.”
Wilson also responded to Charlamagne via Twitter, reposting a segment from the Brilliant Idiots episode and writing “sucker sh*t” before also posting a video of his fellow media commentator DJ Rosenberg blasting Charlamagne over the opinion, adding the caption:
“Salute”
Charlamagne has since responded to Wilson’s remarks on a follow up episode of Brilliant Idiots, where he accused Wilson of not being able to take the kind of digs he dishes out to others, stating:
“I don’t understand that, I’ve never played that game. If I get on somebody’s platform and I say some wild sh*t about somebody…and they flip out I take my L…you can’t do that when you look like Ben Stiller’s dad, you can’t do that when you look like a beige sore thumb, and you can’t do that when your name should actually be eat a d**k Wilson,”
Charlamagne also opted to give an explanation as to why he does’t think Wilson deserved to be placed over other hip-hop commentary creators such as Wallo & Gillie (#9), N.O.R.E. (11) and others, alleging that all Wilson has done this year is “troll” and be a “bad DJ Akademiks impersonation,” among other things.
