Tiffany Haddish Visited A Grocery Store In Africa & Her Response Is Getting Mixed Reactions: ‘Americans Need To Stop Disrespecting Africa’
Tiffany Haddish is addressing the controversy following her viral visit to a Zimbabwean grocery store.
On Sunday, July 28th, the 44-year-old comedian and actress took to TikTok to give her followers a tour of a grocery store in Zimbabwe.

Seemingly taken aback by the store’s high quality, Tiffany Haddish commented in the clip,
“I’m out here in Zimbabwe, and look at the grocery store! They’ve got a grocery store! It’s beautiful.”
She continued,
“It’s absolutely humongous, in Africa baby… believe it!”
As the clip progressed, Tiffany Haddish explained her desire to dispel misconceptions about African supermarkets and continued to praise the store, noting that the meat department didn’t have an unpleasant smell.

Tiffany’s video sparked mixed reactions, with some social media users believing she was genuinely surprised by the quality of Zimbabwe’s grocery stores, while others felt she was challenging negative stereotypes about Africa.
One X user commented,
“Americans need to stop disrespecting Africa, for real. So she expected Zimbabwe not to have a grocery store, and to even say, ‘It doesn’t smell.’”

In defense of Haddish, another X user wrote,
“Some people think she’s dissing Zimbabwe with her comic grocery store tour. Nothing could be further from the truth. In her own inimitable way, she’s dispelling some stereotypes parroted by Western media. Open your eyes and feel the love in her eyes and voice. Thanks, @TiffanyHaddish.”

Following widespread online debate, Tiffany Haddish addressed a follower on TikTok to clarify the intent behind the viral clip.
When a TikTok user asked if Tiffany Haddish believed Africans ate grass, the comedian responded by blaming the media for leading her to believe that African grocery stores were all outdoors with “goats and cows just hanging out”:
“No. But the media had me thinking all of your food is purchased at outdoor markets with goats and cows just hanging out, waiting to be slaughtered, with all kinds of smells and flies everywhere.”
