Donald Trump Speaks At NABJ Annual Convention, Says He’s The Best President For Black People Since Abraham Lincoln
Donald Trump’s appearance at this year’s National Association of Black Journalists Convention was interesting, to say the least.
Many were disappointed when news initially broke that the GOP controversial presidential candidate was invited at all to the NABJ Annual Convention. However, despite the backlash, Donald Trump showed up today (July 31), as promised, at the event, where he answered questions from three journalists in front of a packed ballroom.
Things quickly got a little heated, with Donald Trump labeling his introduction as “rude.” He also claimed he was invited to the convention under “false pretenses” because President Joe Biden and VP/Democratic presidential nominee front-runner Kamala Harris were not in attendance.

When asked to answer a question concerning harmful remarks he’s made about Black politicians, journalists, and civilians over the years, Donald Trump replied,
“I have been the best president for the Black population since Abraham Lincoln. That’s my answer.”
Trump’s questionable commentary didn’t end there. During the almost 35-minute interview, he was asked to speak on Republicans who claim Kamala Harris was a DEI (Diversity, equity and inclusion) hire and not deserving of her achievements. After pushing back on the literal definition of DEI, Trump said,
“I’ve known her a long time indirectly, not directly very much, and she was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black. And now she wants to be known as Black.”
He added,
“Is she Indian or is she Black? I respect either one but she obviously doesn’t. Because she was Indian all the way then all of a sudden she made a turn and she became a Black person.”
The conversation also took a turn to Trump’s stance that immigrants are “taking Black jobs.”
According to Trump,
“Many of these people are coming in from mental institutions, from prisons, from jails, they’re gang members from other countries. Other countries are setting loose their prisoners…and they’re taking their bad people, drug dealers, gang members, and they’re bringing them into the United States.”

As you can imagine, the now-viral interview has caused a huge debate online over Trump’s invitation and what he said during the event. One person wrote about the matter on X,
“I’m so glad they got this unraveled jack*ss on video at the NABJ so everyone can see how unhinged and hypocritical he is. MAJOR props to this journalist who remained cool and poised, under the circumstances.”
Another person referenced the backlash Megan Thee Stallion received for performing during Kamala Harris’ recent rally in Atlanta and expressed,
“Y’all worried about Megan when you should be really be mad at what Trump is saying at the NABJ. This motherf*cker is disrespectful as hell”
