Singer Shanice Wilson Reveals Double Mastectomy After Stage One Tumor Diagnosis

Shanice Wilson opens up about her double mastectomy in a heartfelt social media series.

The 51-year-old singer and actress recently shared her journey through a double mastectomy after a stage one tumor was discovered in her breast. In a series of vlog-style videos posted on Instagram, Shanice candidly documented her experience, starting with her initial surgery.

In the first video, Shanice said,

“I have DCIS in my breast.. and today is my surgery. This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to face in my life, but I know God is with me.”

DCIS, or ductal carcinoma in situ, is an early form of breast cancer where malignant cells remain in the milk ducts.

Following the surgery, Shanice revealed in a subsequent video that, after further testing, doctors confirmed the tumor was actually stage one.

She shared,

“They told me they wanted to remove my breast… Since you’re going to remove one, you might as well remove both because I want them to be the same. I don’t want anything popping up later in the other breast. When they took everything out, they retested, and they said that I had stage one.”

In her Instagram caption, Shanice expressed her gratitude and strength:

“I had a stage one one-centimeter tumor in my breast… Thank God I caught it early… I wasn’t ready to talk about it then but I’m strong enough to talk about it now.. Please everyone get checked.”

Social media has responded with an outpouring of support for Shanice, celebrating her bravery and resilience through her health journey.

Shanice’s husband, actor and comedian Flex Alexander, commented,

“You handled it like a warrior, babe!! I’m glad you’re telling your story now!! You are my hero.”

Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, praised Shanice’s courage, writing,

“Gods healing power is all powerful. You are the bravest most unselfish person for sharing your testimony! Just said a prayer for you.”
