Drake Seemingly Backs Lil Wayne Amid Claims Jay-Z Snubbed Him For 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show

Drake seems to be backing Lil Wayne as notable figures express disappointment over Wayne being passed up for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show.

After the announcement that Kendrick Lamar would headline the halftime show in New Orleans, some fans and close associates of Lil Wayne felt that Wayne was unfairly overlooked. Given that the game will be held in Wayne’s hometown, many believed he was deserving of the spot.

Birdman, a close associate of Lil Wayne, voiced his frustration on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“These n***** p****. @NICKIMINAJ @Drake @LilTunechi YMCMB. I’ll make these n***** respect us.”

Nicki Minaj, who has often praised Lil Wayne as a key influence in her career, also voiced her disappointment on social media. In a series of impassioned tweets, she seemed to accuse the NFL, Jay-Z, and Roc Nation of sidelining Lil Wayne due to personal grievances:

“Denying a young black man what he rightfully put into this game for no other reason but your ego. Your hatred for BIRDMAN, Drake & Nicki got you punishing Lil Wayne?!?!!! LIL WAYNE!!!!!!! THE GOAT?!!!!!!!!!! Nola what’s good?!!!!!!”

Nicki Minaj continued to defend Lil Wayne’s legacy, adding,

“And btw, you don’t know the half of what lil Wayne has done for me & others. Wayne had drake & I on his tour w/no papers signed. He was on all of my mixtapes w/no papers signed. This man has literally changed the FACE of hip hop. The hair too. IYKYK.”

Drake, who was mentored by Lil Wayne and is often referred to as part of “The Big Three” alongside Wayne and Nicki Minaj, also appeared to show his support.

On September 11, he posted a throwback photo of Lil Wayne on his Instagram story.

Additionally, he liked several posts related to the situation. This included a screenshot of one of Nicki’s tweets.

Drake also liked a poll questioning, “Was it planned?” which featured a photo of Jay-Z and Kendrick Lamar, with his song 30 for 30 playing in the background—a track rumored to address attempts by industry figures to halt his winning streak.

While it’s unclear if Jay-Z and Roc Nation, who partner with the NFL on music programming, have complete control over the Apple Music-sponsored halftime show, many speculate that the decision has stirred tension within the industry, particularly with Lil Wayne’s camp.
