Georgia Sheriff’s Office Launches State-Of-The-Art Robot Security Program
A jail facility in Georgia is the testing ground for a new AI-powered robot security system.
The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office unveiled its new 6-foot-tall DEKA Sentry Robots on Wednesday (October 23rd), insisting that devices will allow them to shift personnel elsewhere to increase productivity and have a safer facility for officers.
A press release from the department stated about the 90-day program:
“This advanced robotic system will assist personnel with perimeter patrols and security rounds in select dormitories, introducing a new layer of safety and operational efficiency.”


It added:
“Sentry robots serve as a powerful and visible deterrent to potential threats. Equipped with 360-degree cameras, night vision, lights, heat detection, and two-way audio capabilities, the robots provide continuous surveillance and real-time communications. While the Sentry robots are programmed to navigate the facility autonomously, a live operator will control them for more complex tasks – ensuring adaptable security tailored to the situation at hand.”
To start, the agency will deploy three robots, hoping that the new system will revolutionize the jail/prison industry.
Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens stated about the new devices:
“I think we can work smarter with technology and not harder…These Jail Bots can handle tasks much faster than some of us humans can and more efficiently.”
He continued:
“Now they will not take the place of humans, let’s make sure you understand that…I think it’s going to be a game changer for the whole corrections industry because it will allow us to be a lot safer, more efficient.”
