Nick Cannon Opens Up About Why His Marriage w/ Mariah Carey Ended: ‘I Would Lay Up At Night Thinking ‘Is This Who I Am?’’

Nick Cannon is getting candid about the internal struggles he experienced while married to Mariah Carey.

During a recent conversation on “The GAUDS Show podcast,” Nick Cannon, 44, shared how the “Emotions” singer’s stardom effected the way he felt about himself, stating:

“I got married in my 20’s still to the biggest star in the world. My trajectory was [lower], then hers, she’s already in a different stratosphere.”

He continued:

“I would lay up at night thinking like, ‘is this who I am? Am I Mariah’s man? Is that what my life is supposed to be?’”

Nick Cannon went on to state that he especially began to question his “manhood” with Mariah Carey, 55, after welcoming their twins Moroccan and Monroe in 2011. He added:

“I’m carrying a purse, the diaper bag…she rocking being the Alpha that she is. I believe she needs a dude like that, I’m just not that dude.”

Mariah Carey and Cannon tied the knot back in 2008 and were married for eight years before calling it quits.

The Wild N’ Out creator went on to share that while he’s deeply appreciative for Carey and all of her support, even amid drama surrounding the 10 additional children he’s welcomed since their split, he felt slighted being in Carey’s world because he had his own “main character energy” to maintain.
