Mariah Carey — Judge ‘Inclined’ To Dismiss Copyright Lawsuit Against Singer Over ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’
The legal battle over Mariah Carey’s holiday hit “All I Want For Christmas Is You” could be over soon.
A judge said she’s “inclined” to dismiss the copyright lawsuit two years after singer Vince Vance filed it, claiming that it was taken from his 1989 song of the same name, Rolling Stone reports.
He requested $20 million in his original lawsuit before dropping it in November 2022. A year later, he refiled, adding more details to his case, including naming Troy Powers as a co-plaintiff, alleging he helped write the original.
Vince Vance’s team claimed in the lawsuit,
“Carey has without licensing, palmed off these works with her incredulous origin story, as if those works were her own.”
The singer’s legal team filed a motion to dismiss earlier this year, and it looks like it could be granted.l soon.
