Florida Man Pretending To Be Elon Musk Arrested After Scamming Woman Out Of $250,000
A 56-year-old Florida man has been arrested in connection to a $250,000 Elon Musk impersonation scam that targeted a 74-year-old woman from Texas, according to reports.
The Bradenton Police Department released a statement about the case, accusing Jeffrey Arthur Moynihan, Jr. of creating a fake Facebook account of Musk, impersonating the billionaire and convincing the victim to invest hundreds of thousands into “Musk’s businesses.”
Moynihan allegedly told the unidentified woman she stood to earn $55 million by working with him. Authorities say she transferred at least $250,000 to the scammer, though the victim’s husband reportedly mentioned to police that number could actually be as high as $600,000.

Police arrested Moynihan on November 19, charging him with grand theft. He is said to own a painting and pressure-washing business in the Bradenton area. The investigation into the scam is still ongoing at this time.
