Will Smith Regrets Years-Long Feud w/ ‘Fresh Prince’ Costar Janet Hubert: ‘I Made A Horrible Error & Misjudgment Of Her Value’
Hindsight is really 20/20!
It’s no secret that there was a period when Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Will Smith was at odds with Janet Hubert, the actress who originally played his beloved TV aunt, Vivian Banks. For years it seemed that the pair would never make up, however, in 2020 they reconciled while filming an HBO Max special celebrating 30 years of their popular 90s sitcom.
In an upcoming episode of Vice’s Black Comedy in America series, first obtained by PEOPLE, Smith touches on his falling out with Hubert and reveals he regrets how he treated her.
“I made a horrible error and misjudgment of her value and power and beauty to the show.”
He adds,
“I horribly underestimated what she was for me at that point in my life.”

Hubert portrayed Aunt Viv for the first three seasons of the series. Following her departure, she was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid.
Good to see that Smith and Hubert are in a much better place!
The full Black Comedy in America episode featuring Will Smith airs tonight (Dec. 3) at 10 p.m. ET/PT on VICE.
