Olivia Wilde Got ‘Insane Death Threats’ When Her ‘House’ Character Had Interracial Relationship w/ Omar Epps’ Character
Olivia Wilde recently opened up about the intense backlash she faced after her bisexual character on House started an interracial relationship with Omar Epps’ character.
In a recent interview with Variety, Wilde, who played Remy “Thirteen” Hadley on House from 2007 to 2012, recalled receiving constant death threats and hateful messages about the TV romance to the point that extra security was required on set due to the “insane death threats constantly coming into the studios.”
Back in 2011, Wilde shared her experience regarding the TV couple’s first on-screen kiss, stating:
“We got a lot of hate mail for that… There are racist people out there. We got hate mail that said someone wanted to cut off my lips and kill me. We had extra security on set for a while.”

Reflecting on her groundbreaking role, Wilde noted in her recent interview that what was considered shocking at the time would be far more accepted today, saying:
“Seeing what’s on television now, if you watch Euphoria, the fact that my character was shocking and groundbreaking then… it’s like, no, it’s nothing.”
She also spoke about how the negativity affected her as a creative, stating:
“The damage that does to an artist is profound, because you stop being as fearless. I think once you fear that you’ll be judged, you become self-conscious in a way that has never been good for any artist.”
