TikTok Trends As Social Media Reacts To Looming Ban In The U.S.
TikTok is trending as users brace for a possible U.S. ban.
The Supreme Court recently heard arguments over a federal mandate requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest or face a January 19 ban. Justices debated whether the order infringes on free speech rights, with Chief Justice John Roberts asserting that the issue centers on data security rather than user expression.
The platform’s fate sparked conversations online. One user wrote, “Can’t believe years ago I refused to download TikTok, now I’m finna be sickkk if they actually ban it.” Another added, “They really should be shutting down Instagram instead.”
If enacted, the ban would remove TikTok from U.S. app stores and disrupt essential services, effectively halting its operation.
