First Black ‘Bachelor’ Matt James Announces Split From Rachael Kirkconnell 4 Years After She Won His Season
Matt James, the first Black “Bachelor,” and Rachael Kirkconnell have officially called it quits after four years of ups and downs.
Matt shared the news on Instagram Thursday(Jan. 16), posting a throwback photo of them from when they first met. He captioned the post,
“Father God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts. Give us a peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding. Shower our friends and family with kindness and love to comfort us. And remind us that our Joy comes from you, Lord ?.”

The couple’s relationship wasn’t without its controversies, with Rachael facing backlash in 2021 over racially insensitive social media posts, including photos from an antebellum-themed party. After those posts resurfaced, Matt and Rachael briefly split, though they later reconciled.
