Bill Gates Reveals Melina French Gates Divorce Is His Biggest Regret In Life, Says Marriage ‘Kept Me Grounded’

Bill Gates opened up about his divorce from Melinda French Gates, calling it

“the mistake I most regret.”

Reflecting on the split more than three years after their separation, the 69-year-old Microsoft co-founder said,

“You would have to put that at the top of the list. There are others but none that matter. The divorce thing was miserable for me and Melinda for at least two years.”

Gates also acknowledged how their marriage shaped his success.

“You don’t end up with a Microsoft result unless an unbelievable number of things converge, including my marriage to Melinda that kept me grounded.”

Despite the divorce, Bill and Melinda remain part of each other’s lives for the sake of their three children and grandchildren. Gates added,

“Melinda and I still see each other—we have three kids and two grandchildren, so there are family events.”
