Monica Speaks On Potentially Winning Second Grammy w/ Brandy For Ariana Grande’s ‘The Boy Is Mine’ Remix: ‘It’s Unbelievable’
Brandy and Monica might soon be adding another Grammy to their collections!
The remix of their iconic track “The Boy Is Mine,” featured on Ariana Grande’s “Eternal Sunshine” album, has been nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards.
The original hit, released in 1998, earned the duo their first Grammy for Best R&B Performance, and this new rendition could make history once again.
Reflecting on the collaboration, Monica told PEOPLE:
“It was nothing short of a blessing for Brandy and I not only to reconnect, but to reconnect and do something as special as this innovative version of ‘The Boy Is Mine.’”
She also shared how the experience gave her and Brandy a chance to rekindle.
“She and I had not seen each other for many years, so it gave us the opportunity to talk not just about the song, but life as a whole…[It] transported us back to that period of our lives and our careers—such a transformative and explosive time.”
Monica explained that Ariana played a pivotal role in bringing the remix to life, ensuring it paid homage to the original while offering a fresh, unique take. She praised the “Wicked” actress, saying:
“I love the fact that she did not try to remake it in the form that both Brandy and I made it in, but she created something that’s her own.”
The process brought the three stars closer, with Brandy describing Ariana as “such a kind and talented soul.”

As for the Grammy nod, both Brandy and Monica expressed heartfelt gratitude. Monica shared her excitement, stating:
