The Rock and Roll legend appeared as a guest on The David Letterman Show in 1982, where he famously announced that he was “not gay” anymore.
Little Richard, who rose to stardom in the mid-’50s, had been open about his attraction to both sexes early in his career, even being linked to openly gay musician Billy Wright at one point.

But during his appearance on the talk show, he boldly declared that he was a born-again Christian who had been delivered from homosexuality, saying:
“God gave me the victory. I’m not gay now, but, you know, I was gay all my life. I believe I was one of the first gay people to come out. But God let me know that He made Adam to be with Eve, not Steve. So, I gave my heart to Christ.”
