Marion Jones Reveals She Turned Down Offer To Star In Spike Lee’s
‘She Got Game’
Marion Jones is getting candid about missing out on a major movie opportunity.
Recalling the situation on the Second Wind podcast with guest Jemele Hill, Marion shared that iconic director Spike Lee once sent her the manuscript for a potential “She Got Game” movie, a follow-up to his acclaimed 1998 “He Got Game” sports drama starring Denzel Washington.

According to Marion, Spike was serious about moving forward with the project and had her in mind for the lead role. But there was one issue—her then-husband, believed to be Olympic shot-putter C.J. Hunter (whom she was married to from 1998–2002), wasn’t comfortable with the kissing and intimate scenes in the script. Marion said he “gently told” her the role might not be the right fit.
Her podcast co-host Suzanne Evans chimed in, encouraging Marion to reach back out to Spike, letting him know she’s
“having a comeback.”
