Billy McFarland Cancels Fyre Festival 2 For Good, Puts Infamous Brand Up For Sale
Billy McFarland, the convicted fraudster behind 2017’s disastrous Fyre Festival, has officially cancelled the planned Fyre Festival 2 and announced he is selling the brand.
“When my team and I launched Fyre Festival 2, it was about two things: finishing what I started and making things right,” Billy McFarland said.
Despite promising “honesty, transparency, relentless effort, and creativity,” the event, planned for Isla Mujeres, Mexico, was postponed, with ticket holders refunded. “We rebuilt momentum. And we proved one thing without a doubt:? Fyre is one of the most powerful attention engines in the world.”
Billy McFarland now believes “this brand is bigger than any one person” and seeks an operator “with the scale, experience, and infrastructure to realize its potential.” Tickets had ranged from $1,400 to $1.1 million.
Though he claims to have found a new venue, McFarland admits he “can’t risk a repeat of what happened in Playa Del Carmen.”
