Homeowner Facing Murder Charges After Fatally Shooting High School Senior During TikTok Door-Knock Prank
A TikTok prank turned deadly in Virginia after 18-year-old Michael Bosworth Jr. was shot and killed by 27-year-old homeowner Tyler Butler.
According to the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a 3 a.m. call on Saturday, May 3, about a possible burglary in progress. “The SCSO received a call for a residential burglary in progress, where a resident had fired sh*ts,” the release stated. Officers arrived and found two teens sh*t, one of them being Bosworth. A third teen was unharmed.

Bosworth was taken to the hospital, where he later died. The other teen sustained minor injuries. The surviving teens told deputies they were filming a “ding dong ditch” TikTok prank, which involves knocking on doors and running away. One of them showed investigators a video from earlier that night as proof they were not trying to break in, according to NBC News4 Washington.
Butler, who was not initially charged, was later arrested and charged with second-degree murder, malicious wounding, and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond at Rappahannock Regional Jail.
