Montell Jordan Says Drake’s Sample Of ‘Daddy’s Home’ Helped Him Recoup Royalties, But Claims He Didn’t Personally Clear The Record
Montell Jordan is reflecting on how Drake’s hit “Papi’s Home” helped him finally recover financially from Def Jam.
During his appearance on the We Sound Crazy podcast, Jordan called the experience “a wild surprise,” revealing that Drake’s sampling of his song “Daddy’s Home” on the Certified Lover Boy track allowed him to recoup the publishing and royalties of the original hit, 29 years after it dropped.

Jordan explained,
“It advanced the publishing of the original song more, which allowed me to recoup faster.”
Despite the success of the record and the benefits it brought to Jordan, he later mentioned that no one cleared the sample with him personally, hinting that he would have preferred to have been informed ahead of time.
