SZA Reveals She Owes Beyoncé Money For ‘Listen’ Sample, But Says Songstress Has Never ‘Pressed’ Her For Payment: ‘A Generous Queen’
According to SZA, Beyoncé is out here supporting artists without expecting anything in return.
The “Good Days” singer recently revealed she’s in Queen Bey’s debt after sampling her iconic 2006 track “Listen” from the Dreamgirls soundtrack on her SOS album, released in December 2022.
In a comment left under an IG post, SZA shared:
“I literally owe her half my publishing off interpolation alone on SOS and she never pressed me lmao a generous QUEEN ?”

SZA’s comment was in response to a viral skit by a content creator who humorously poked fun at Beyoncé’s reputation for giving credit to everyone who contributes to her projects, no matter how small the contribution.
Seems like Beyoncé’s generosity extends beyond writing credits. SZA used an interpolation of “Listen” for the lead track on SOS of the same name. At the end of her version, she sings:
“And I cried and cried / Said what’s on my mind,”
A clear nod to Bey’s original lyrics:
“And I’ve tried and tried / To say what’s on my mind.”
And just like that, Queen Bey let it ride, no legal threats, no drama, just support.
