‘The Wire’ Star Tray Chaney Says Son Is Out Of ICU After Being Thrown 300 Feet In Tornado That Leveled Their Georgia Home
Tray Chaney, best known for his role on “The Wire,” has shared a hopeful update following a harrowing ordeal.
His 19-year-old son, Malachai Chaney, has been moved out of the ICU and into a stable hospital room after surviving a violent tornado that destroyed their home in an Atlanta suburb.
“Malachai was flung nearly the length of a football field,” Chaney told TMZ, recalling the terrifying moments when their house was torn apart. The actor described being levitated in bed before the walls collapsed around him. After waking under a pile of rubble and debris, he searched frantically for his son.
Malachai was later discovered in the woods, suffering from broken ribs, facial injuries, and memory loss. A birthday video from Shaquille O’Neal helped lift the teen’s spirits. Chaney says he’s committed to staying at Grady Hospital for as long as necessary. A GoFundMe has been launched by the family to aid recovery.
Prayers for a speedy recovery.
