James Corden Says He ‘Tried For 8 Years’ To Get Rihanna On ‘Carpool Karaoke’ & Would Relaunch The Show If She Drops A New Album
James Corden is just like the rest of us, still waiting on Rihanna’s long-anticipated return to music!
While promoting the new Smurfs movie in Brussels, where he stars as No Name Smurf alongside Rihanna as Smurfette, Corden told Entertainment Tonight he spent nearly a decade trying to get her on Carpool Karaoke. He shared:
“I tried for eight years to get Rihanna to do a Carpool Karaoke…She would always say to me, ‘When the new record is out.’ And then I finished the show before that record came out.”

Rihanna’s last studio album Anti dropped back in 2016, but she’s contributed to the Smurfs soundtrack with a new song, “Friend of Mine.”
Rihanna and James also perform a duet in the animated film, which the Grammy winner called “one of the biggest surprises of the whole thing,” adding: “He can sing. He really is good!” Though The Late Late Show ended in 2023, Corden said he’s still down to bring Carpool Karaoke back, but only if Rihanna actually drops her next album.
Would you be here for a Rihanna x Carpool Karaoke moment?
