Man Accused Of Killing 2 Kappa Alpha Psi Brothers In DUI Crash Issues Apology To Victims’ Families: ‘It Was Never Intentional’
The man charged in the drunk driving crash that killed two #KappaAlphaPsi fraternity brothers is speaking out for the first time.
Rene Hernandez, who faces two counts of murder in the deaths of Ronnie Burns II and Jayden Flemming, was released from the hospital and booked into Harris County Jail on Wednesday (Aug. 6). In an interview with KHOU 11, he shared a message to the victims’ families:
“I’m sorry, and I hope that the Lord forgives me, and I hope the Lord is with them in their pain and their suffering… It was never intentional, and my biggest grief right now is just the victims’ families.”

Ronnie’s parents, who traveled from Duncanville to Houston, accepted his apology. “It’s understandable… I speak for the family, we accept that,” said his father, Ronnie Burns Sr.
“It was senseless, but everybody makes mistakes… This was just the dumbest thing that he could have done, ever in life,” added Ronnie’s mother, Kimberly Burns.
Both 22-year-olds had recently graduated from Florida A&M University and were in Houston for the annual Texas Greek Picnic when Hernandez, allegedly speeding and running red lights, crashed into their Lexus, causing both vehicles to go airborne. The victims were burned beyond recognition.
What are your thoughts on this unfortunate situation?
