Minnesota Teen Says Buffalo Wild Wings Server Demanded She ‘Prove’ Her Gender While Trying To Use Women’s Restroom
A Minnesota teen is taking action after a troubling encounter at a Buffalo Wild Wings.
Gerika Mudra, 18, filed a charge of discrimination Tuesday (Aug. 12) against the Owatonna restaurant, claiming a server followed her into the women’s restroom and demanded she “prove” she was a girl.
According to Gender Justice, the organization representing Mudra, the employee banged on the stall door, saying, “This is a women’s restroom. The man needs to get out of here.”
When Mudra responded, “I am a lady,” the worker said, “You have to get out now.” Mudra then unzipped her hoodie to show she had breasts.

The teen, a lesbian who is not transgender, said, “She [the worker] made me feel very uncomfortable. After that, I just don’t like going in public bathrooms. I just hold it in. I want to be able to use the bathroom in peace.”
Sara Jane Baldwin, senior staff attorney at Gender Justice, emphasized that the employee’s actions violated Minnesota law even though Mudra is not transgender: “Businesses have a legal obligation not to just have anti-discrimination policies on paper, but to train staff and ensure that those policies are followed in real time. When that doesn’t happen, the business is liable for the harm caused.”
