13 Children & 1 Adult Injured After Popular Coney Beach Ride Derails
A day of fun at Coney Beach Pleasure Park in Porthcawl, South Wales, turned into chaos on Wednesday (Aug. 13) evening when a popular children’s ride derailed. Thirteen children and one adult were injured.

Emergency services arrived just before 6 p.m. after the Wacky Worm roller coaster came off the track. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, followed by screams. Some children had visible injuries, including bloody noses, split lips, and bruising.

Seven people were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Others were treated at the scene. South Wales Police confirmed that none of the injuries are life-threatening.

The Wacky Worm is operated by a third-party vendor, not the park itself. Coney Beach Pleasure Park, which is set to close permanently later this year after more than a century in operation, has issued an apology and is arranging refunds.

Authorities have closed the ride while investigators determine the cause of the derailment.
